Suzanne Lee, the creative director of BioCouture, creates garments from cellulose bacteria which she grows in a bathtub using only eco friendly methods, exploring the future of fashion design in conjunction with ecologically conscious technology.
Lee mixes a green tea solution with sugar solution and introduces yeast which then produces fibers, which form a compact leather-like layer. This layer is then dried out and shaped in its final form. She also uses fruits and vegetables like blueberries and beetroot to make stains for patterns and designs.
