Madonna has surprised all with her latest project “W.E.”, celebrated romance between King Edward VIII and the twice divorced Mrs Wallis Simpson. W.E. (the title stands for the initials of the two lovebirds Wallis and Edward) is a romantic drama centred on the life of the American socialite who married Prince Edward ‘Duke of Windsor’, formerly King Edward VIII of England.
It also happens to be one of the best-dressed movies of the year, although has received mixed reviews but there is no argument that the film showcases some of the best outfits and styling since ‘Coco before Chanel’ .
Andrea Riseborough, actress, portrays Simpson brilliantly. The film oozes sophistication and style, clad with Wallis’ signature twisted hair rolls, nods to this season’s crisp blouses, houndstooth pencil skirts and outfits that were as infamous as her approach to royal customs.
Wallis was a realist and expressed that she did not see herself as a beautiful woman, so the only thing she could do was dress better than everyone else and she certainly did that and to this day she remains a true style icon.
With the release of ‘W.E’ and designers such as Roland Mouret launched his Simpson inspired gold silk maxi dress , her legacy to fashion continues to amaze.
