Christian Cota attributes his passion for design to his first muses, his mother and his late grandmother. “Their manner of dress and their poise was always an education in elegance. They define the word.”
Christian Cota studied painting, a lifelong passion, in Paris before embarking on a career in fashion. After graduating Parsons School of Design in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, he founded his eponymous company in February of 2007. For Spring 2008, Christian’s first collection incorporated the designer’s early influences: the simplistic grace of nature, blending organic forms with clean shapes. Style.com subsequently named Christian Cota one of their “Ten Newcomers to Watch”. In January of 2009, Christian Cota received Fashion Group International’s Women’s Ready to Wear Rising Star Award. His work has been featured in The Museum of Fashion Institute of Technology’s Arbiters of Style Exhibit.
In July of 2010, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue named Christian Cota a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist. In 2011 Cota was inducted as a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and was also selected to participate in the CFDA’s 2012 ‐ 2014 {FASHION INCUBATOR} program.
Christian Cota is a talent on the rise and increasingly recognized among both retailers and celebrities. Notable actresses who have worn Christian Cota include Blake Lively, Emma Stone, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Tina Fey.
It’s all about soft romance for the Christian Cota girl. While luxury and couture craftsmanship remain a calling card, Cota has embraced a softer construction with girlish charm for Spring capsule.
